Lou Gehrig, known as "The Iron Horse," was one of the most respected and admired players in New York Yankees history. He was famous for his strength, quiet determination, and incredible talent on the field.

Gehrig joined the Yankees in 1923 and played 17 seasons with the team. He became one of baseball’s greatest hitters, finishing his career with a .340 batting average, 493 home runs, and 1,995 runs batted in.

One of the most amazing things about Gehrig was his toughness. He played in 2,130 straight games, never missing a day, which earned him his famous nickname. This streak lasted as a record for over 50 years.

Off the field, Gehrig was known for being kind, humble, and dedicated. Even though he was a superstar, he always stayed modest and respectful.

Sadly, Gehrig’s career was cut short in 1939 when he was diagnosed with a disease now known as ALS. That year, he gave his famous farewell speech, calling himself "the luckiest man on the face of the earth."

Gehrig was added to the Baseball Hall of Fame the same year, and his story continues to inspire people today. His legacy is a reminder of courage, strength, and grace under pressure.
