NYR RANGERS #3 Harry Howell

Harry Howell was one of the most dependable and respected defensemen in New York Rangers history. Known for his calm, steady play and leadership, he spent over a decade anchoring the Rangers’ blue line.

Howell joined the Rangers in the early 1950s and quickly became a key part of the team. He was known for playing smart, physical defence and rarely making mistakes. He also mentored younger players and earned the respect of teammates and fans alike.

In 1967, Howell won the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s best defenseman. He played more games as a Ranger than any other player at the time and was known for always putting the team first.

Off the ice, Howell was admired for his humility, work ethic, and love for the game. In 2009, the Rangers retired his number 3 jersey to honour his long and successful career.

Harry Howell will always be remembered as a symbol of consistency, class, and Rangers pride.
