Jerry Koosman was one of the best pitchers in New York Mets history. A tough left-hander with a calm attitude and strong arm, Koosman helped lead the Mets to their first-ever World Series title in 1969.

Koosman joined the Mets in 1967 and quickly proved he could handle pressure. With a fastball, slider, and great control, he struck out many batters and became a key part of the team’s pitching rotation.

In the 1969 season, Koosman played a huge role in the Mets’ surprising run to the championship. He won big games in both the playoffs and the World Series, helping the team beat the powerful Baltimore Orioles. His strong performances made him a hero to Mets fans.

Koosman continued to pitch well for the Mets, earning two All-Star selections and finishing near the top of the league in strikeouts and innings pitched.

Off the field, Koosman was known for his quiet focus and hard work. He showed younger players how to be professionals and always gave his best.

Jerry Koosman’s name will always be remembered by Mets fans. His number 36 was retired by the team in 2021 to honour all he gave to the franchise.
