Lee Roy Selmon was one of the greatest players in Tampa Bay Buccaneers history. He was known for his strength, leadership, and love for the game. Selmon was the first player ever drafted by the team and quickly became the leader of the defence.

The Buccaneers picked Selmon first overall in the 1976 NFL Draft. Right away, he made a big impact. He used his size, speed, and power to break through the offensive line and pressure quarterbacks. He was one of the most feared defenders in the league.

Selmon’s influence went beyond the field. He was a quiet and strong leader who helped younger players and always put the team first. Coaches, teammates, and fans respected him for his hard work and dedication.

In 1979, Selmon was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year. His great play that season showed how important he was to the team. Later, he was added to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Buccaneers retired Selmon’s jersey number 63 to honour everything he did for the team. He will always be remembered as a true legend and a proud part of Buccaneers history.
