Steve Nelson was one of the best linebackers in New England Patriots history. Wearing number 57, he played with toughness, smarts, and leadership during the 1970s and 1980s.
Nelson was known for reading plays quickly and making important tackles against both the run and the pass. He led the defence with his voice and actions and was respected by teammates and coaches alike.
He was chosen for the Pro Bowl three times and earned First-Team All-Pro honours twice. His hard work and dedication helped shape the Patriots' defence and set a high standard for future players.
Off the field, Nelson gave back to the community and was known for his good character. He supported many local causes and was a strong role model.
To honour everything he gave to the team, the Patriots retired his number 57 jersey. Steve Nelson will always be remembered as a Patriots legend.
