MTL EXPOS #30 Tim Raines
Tim Raines, known to fans as "Rock," was one of the most exciting and beloved players in Montreal Expos history. With blazing speed and non-stop energy, he brought crowds to their feet and helped define the team's golden years.
Raines made his debut in 1979 and quickly became a star. His incredible base-stealing ability made him one of the best leadoff hitters in baseball. Year after year, Raines reached base, stole bases, and gave pitchers and catchers headaches. He turned singles into doubles and doubles into runs, using his speed and smart base running to spark the Expos’ offence.
But Raines wasn’t just fast—he was a great all-around player. He had a good eye at the plate, strong bat control, and surprising power for a leadoff man. In the outfield, he was quick and reliable, with a strong arm and excellent instincts.
Off the field, Raines was known for being humble, hardworking, and respected by teammates and fans alike. He helped younger players and led by example in the clubhouse.
Raines’ time with the Expos left a lasting impression. In 2017, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, a well-earned honour for one of the game’s greatest leadoff hitters.
Tim Raines will always be remembered as one of the true legends of the Montreal Expos—a player who brought excitement to every game and gave fans a reason to cheer.
