WSH CAPITALS #7 Yvon Labre

Yvon Labre, who wore #7, was one of the first heroes of the Washington Capitals. As one of the team’s original players, Labre set the tone with his toughness, heart, and loyalty.

Labre joined the Capitals in 1974, the year the team was born. Right from the start, he was a leader on defence—blocking shots, playing hard, and always putting the team first. He wasn’t flashy, but his effort and grit made him a fan favourite.

Labre became the team’s first captain and led by example. He showed younger players how to play the right way—with discipline, courage, and pride. He cared deeply about the team and the fans, and it showed every time he hit the ice.

Even after he retired, Labre stayed close to the Capitals. He worked behind the scenes and stayed involved in the community, always giving back to the sport and the city that loved him.

This tribute honours Yvon Labre for everything he brought to Washington hockey. #7 will always be remembered as a true leader and one of the Capitals’ original legends.
