Rod Gilbert, known as "Mr. Ranger," was one of the most beloved players in New York Rangers history. A skilled and hardworking right-winger, Gilbert played his entire NHL career with the Rangers from 1960 to 1978.
He became the team’s all-time leading scorer, known for his smooth skating, sharp shooting, and strong leadership. Fans loved his passion for the game and the pride he took in wearing the Rangers jersey.
Off the ice, Gilbert gave back to the New York community through charity work and was always willing to support a good cause. His dedication to both the team and the city made him a true fan favourite.
In 1979, the Rangers honoured Gilbert by retiring his number 7 jersey—the first number the team ever retired. Rod Gilbert will always be remembered as “Mr. Ranger,” a symbol of pride, loyalty, and excellence.
