NYI ISLANDERS #91 Butch Goring
Butch Goring was a hardworking forward who played a key role in helping the New York Islanders win four straight Stanley Cup titles from 1980 to 1983. He joined the team in 1980 and quickly became known for his smart play, strong defence, and big moments in the playoffs.
Goring’s arrival gave the Islanders the extra boost they needed. He was great at both ends of the ice—blocking shots, killing penalties, and scoring important goals. His leadership and experience made a big difference during their championship run.
Fans loved his unique style—he often played without a helmet and celebrated goals with the famous “Goring wave.” His effort and passion made him a favourite at Nassau Coliseum.
In 2019, the Islanders retired his number 91 jersey to honour his major role in the team’s history. Butch Goring will always be remembered as a key piece of the Islanders dynasty and a true team player.
