Bob Nystrom was a hard-working forward who played a big role in the New York Islanders’ rise to greatness in the early 1980s. Known for his toughness, energy, and ability to score in key moments, Nystrom became a fan favourite and a key piece of the team’s success.

He is best known for scoring the overtime goal in Game 6 of the 1980 Stanley Cup Final, giving the Islanders their first championship. That goal became one of the most famous in team history and helped start their run of four straight Stanley Cup wins.

Nystrom played with heart and hustle every game. He was a leader on and off the ice, earning respect from his teammates and love from the fans.

In 1995, the Islanders retired his number 23 jersey to honour everything he gave to the team. Bob Nystrom will always be remembered as a symbol of determination and a true Islanders legend.
