Serge Savard, nicknamed the "Senator," was one of the key players on the Montreal Canadiens during the 1970s. As a strong and smart defenceman, he helped lead the team to eight Stanley Cup championships.
Savard was known for his smooth skating, calm play, and excellent decision-making. He played a big role in keeping opponents from scoring and helped his team control the game. His leadership on the ice and in the locker room made him one of the most trusted players on the team.
In 2006, the Canadiens honoured Savard by retiring his number 18 jersey. He will always be remembered as one of the best defencemen in Canadiens history and a big part of their winning tradition.
