NYJ JETS #90 Dennis Byrd

Dennis Byrd, a talented and determined defensive lineman, made a lasting impact on the New York Jets and their fans. Known for his effort, heart, and courage, Byrd's story became one of the most inspirational in NFL history.

Drafted by the Jets in 1989, Byrd quickly became a standout on the defensive line. He was strong, fast, and always played with intensity. He pressured quarterbacks and played with everything he had, earning respect from teammates and opponents alike.

In 1992, Byrd’s career was tragically cut short when he suffered a serious neck injury during a game. The injury left him unable to walk—but through incredible strength and determination, Byrd worked hard in rehab and eventually walked again. His recovery inspired people all over the world.

Off the field, Byrd became a symbol of bravery and hope. He shared his story with others, offering support and encouragement to anyone facing tough times.

To honour his courage and impact, the Jets retired his number 90 jersey. Dennis Byrd will always be remembered as more than a football player—he is a hero whose strength and spirit continue to inspire Jets fans and beyond.
