MIN WILD #9 Mikko Koivu
Mikko Koivu was one of the most important players in Minnesota Wild history. Known for his leadership, hard work, and strong play, Koivu was the first full-time captain in team history and wore the "C" for more than 10 seasons.
Koivu played his entire NHL career with the Wild and became the franchise leader in games played, assists, and points. He was known for his smart play, strong defence, and ability to make his teammates better. Fans admired his calm leadership and consistent effort every night.
Off the ice, Koivu was respected for his professionalism and dedication to the Minnesota community. He was a role model for young players and always represented the team with class.
In 2020, the Wild retired his number 9 jersey to honour everything he gave to the team. Mikko Koivu’s name and number will always be remembered by Wild fans as a symbol of loyalty, leadership, and pride.
